the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA is urging referees and players to ensure football leagues are sanctioned before they kick off.

The warning comes after referee Peter Suter, aged 53, was headbutted by a player at a five-a-side match in Doncaster.

James Hope-Gill, chief executive of Sheffield & Hallamshire FA, said: “Because the league is not sanctioned we cannot suspend the player or make sure this unacceptable violence is stamped out.”
