THEY’VE changed a bit...

But for Louise Foster and Caroline Lester the warmth of a past schoolgirl friendship clearly still remains after they met up for the first time in years.

Both of them were stunned to see their teenage selves staring out of the pages of The Star last Friday.

The pair were snapped side-by-side at the Blades-Owls derby match in October 1993 at Bramall Lane - Louise wearing her Wednesday shirt and Caroline her United colours.

“Best friends,” said the caption. And we wondered where they were now and if they were still best friends.

Well, one thing hasn’t changed. They are both still following the fortunes of the city rivals, Caroline as a season ticket holder at the Lane although Louise is prevented by work commitments from following Wednesday like she did up to a few years ago.

And they are certainly still best friends - on Facebook at least!

Louise - whose 31st birthday is today - was 14 and Caroline, then called Porter, was 13 when our photographer snapped them in the family enclosure at that city derby 18 years ago.

They met up again at Caroline’s Kiveton Park home and were soon chatting away even though they haven’t actually seen each other for more than 10 years.

“We were best friends at Eckington school and then we went to Chesterfield College and travelled on the bus together,” said Caroline.

“But it will be over 10 years since we’ve seen each other - we had plenty to talk about.”

Louise said: “We were best friends but you do tend to lose contact with people, life moves on. We’re on Facebook and Caroline messaged that we were in the paper.

“I must say it was nice to see her and have a catch up - we even talked a bit about football,” she chuckled.

Louise is single, lives in Gleadless and works as a relief manager in Rotherham, while Caroline is on maternity leave from her job as a hairdresser at Rumours in Dinnington.

She is looking after 15-week-old Ruby, a sister for four-year-old Alfie. A devout Blade and still a season ticket holder, her husband Robin is a Wednesdayite!

Louise hasn’t got the eye-catching Owls necklace she was wearing 18 years ago - but Caroline still has her crossed-scimitars Blades necklace. “Well, it’s somewhere in the house,” she laughed.

And the United scarf she was wearing in 1993 still comes out for Blades games and will be ‘on duty’ at Bramall Lane on Sunday.

But there will be no reunion for them at Sunday’s game - season ticket holder Caroline will be there but Louise has a family party.
