Recalling the Dream Scheme

A SECOND Retro Day is being held at Upper Wincobank Chapel by popular demand - after many people were disappointed they couldn’t make a January event due to snow.

The event is this Saturday from 1pm to 3pm, at the chapel on Wincobank Avenue.

The chapel archives will be on display to the public, and there will be a visit from Kate King who, with her husband Geoff, set up the innovative Dream Scheme on the Flower Estate in the early 1990s. Children could earn Dream Scheme points by doing useful jobs in the community, then cash in their points for trips and activities. Kate would love to hear from anyone who, as a child, took part.

Organisers of the event stress everyone is welcome to drop in for a free cuppa and a chat, even if they feel they have no story to tell.
