CHEERS! Rotherham’s annual real ale festival has kept its crown as the biggest in the North – with 10 per cent more visitors than last year.

The total number of visitors to the four-day Baa’s of Steel event at Magna, hosted by Rotherham Campaign for Real Ale, was 11,000.

Organisers hope to raise a record amount of money for charity. In 2011, the festival raised £35,000.

Organiser Stephen Burns said: “The atmosphere was electric and a lot of people will have fond memories.”

Money will be set aside for the new trust fund for community groups organised with Voluntary Action Rotherham.

The rest is being donated to Rotherham Hospice, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Weston Park Hospital and The Magna Trust.
