A campaign to encourage children to join their library has been backed by a Rotherham MP.
Sarah Champion is supporting charity The Reading Agency’s drive, which also aims to help youngsters take part in a summer reading challenge.
Research has shown the initiative increases children’s reading range and their enjoyment of reading, building confidence and independent reading.
Hundreds of thousands of children are already reading six books in the summer holidays as part of the scheme.
Ms Champion said: “I hope parents and carers in Rotherham will take their children to their local library this summer to sign up for challenge.
“It’s free and makes reading fun – a vital ingredient in building literacy.”
