INSTALLING cameras in Sheffield taxis to improve safety has been backed by readers.
Sheffield Council is to reconsider the matter of mandatory CCTV in its Hackney carriages after driver Arshad Mahmood was blinded in one eye by an attack.
Fans of The Star on Facebook said it was a ‘good idea’.
Will Boyce said: “It’ll make things safer for drivers and passengers so I think it’s a good idea.”
Some people raised concerns about the cost of putting cameras in taxis and CCTV monitoring.
Philip Strafford said: “I think we are filmed far too much in our daily lives.”
If cameras are approved for the 857 Hackney carriages in Sheffield, the measure could be rolled out to private hire taxis too.
