Rats the way to see in New Year - SLIDESHOW
WOK this way to welcome in the Chinese New Year!
There have been one or two dragons on the Town Hall steps over the years...
But surely there can't be many as colourful as this one.
The dragon was made up of members of Sheffield's Chinese Community who performed a traditional dance to welcome in the Year of the Rat outside the Town Hall.
It was one of a number of events planned throughout this week to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
The events also included a special event last night in the Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall when the Lion dancing team were out in full force outside the City Hall to welcome in the new year.
Visitors to the event were provided with an evening of culture, music, dance and arts performances.
The Year of the Rat begins on Thursday and ends on January 25, next year.
Chinese people, who respect the rat and consider it a courageous creature, believe a 'Rat Year' is a time of hard work, activity, and renewal.
People born in the Year of the Rat are noted for their charm and attraction for the opposite sex.
The new year celebrations continue when the Sheffield and district Chinese School throw a party at King Edward VII Lower School in Darwin Lane, Crosspool on Sunday.
Around 50 pupils from the school will also perform dragon and lion dancing in the Oasis Centre at Meadowhall next Tuesday.
