Rapper MC Hammer bigs up breakfast in Sheffield - VIDEO

EARLY 90s rap hero MC Hammer came to Sheffield to urge schools in the city to big up their breakfasts.

The U Can't Touch This star was launching Breakfast2Live – a new campaign to persuade schools to put on some early morning munchies to raise cash for developing countries and support more school breakfast clubs.

The campaign is being organised by the charity Feed The Children and sponsored by Sheffield-based gold-buying company Cash4Gold.

Schools are being urged to put on breakfasts for their pupils in return for small donations to Feed the Children.

Hammer, not shy of a bit of bling in his heyday, said he had become involved with the company through making a TV commercial to be shown during the Superbowl.

He said: "We've done things with Feed The Children which have been very effective and is part of what we've been doing here in Sheffield.

"We want to show that Cash4Gold cares about contributing to the community that supports our business. I've done this sort of work my entire career and it's very important to me."

The three-time Grammy award winner said it was his first time in Sheffield and he really liked the culture.

He said: "At night time the beautiful big wheel is all lit up and the streets are decorated for Christmas, so it looks lovely.".

The charity is planning a big breakfast week in February and schools, companies and individuals are all being urged to take part.

"Hammer said: "We want to help the campaign succeed in ensuring that more children around the world get the right they deserve – to eat breakfast."
