Rapist’s failed appeal

A NIGHTCLUB boss who subjected two women to prolonged rape ordeals has had an Appeal Court challenge to his convictions rejected.

Michael Bierton, 41, of Rockingham Road, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, who formerly ran Henry’s bar and the next door Empress Rooms club in Mexborough, Doncaster, terrorised his victims and subjected them to humiliating sex attacks.

Bierton was convicted of eight rape charges after a two-week trial, and jailed for 18 years at Sheffield Crown Court in 2005.

But on the basis of fresh video evidence, he asked London’s Criminal Appeal Court for permission to appeal against his convictions. The court heard his sister had unearthed new video footage said to cast doubt on the accounts of the two women’s abuse. But his bid was refused by top judges who said: “We are quite satisfied the convictions cannot be challenged.”
