RAPIST DAD: 25 life terms - VIDEO
A DAD who repeatedly raped his two daughters over 25 years, getting them pregnant 19 times, has been jailed for life and told he may never taste freedom again.
The 56-year-old, who cannot be named to protect his victims, was handed 25 life sentences and ordered to serve a minimum of 19-and-a-half years behind bars.
Sheffield's senior judge Recorder Alan Goldsack QC said he may never be released - and if he is he will be "old and infirm".
The father, who dominated his daughters and prided himself on his hard man image, refused to appear in the dock to face his victims.
Sheffield Crown Court heard he repeatedly raped his two daughters from the age of around 11 - resulting in the births of several children.
He began indecently assaulting them when they were aged between eight and 10.
The family speak out: WHEN a little girl draws clumsy, crayoned pictures of the monsters that come into her bedroom at night, somebody surely should question why.
The dad pleaded guilty to 25 specimen charges of rape and four indecent assaults - but his daughters both told police the rapes were persistent, happening at least every few days for more than two decades.
Recorder Goldsack said: "The phrase 'it is difficult to imagine a worse case' is much overused and rarely if ever true.
"I am not going to say no worse case of rape within a family situation will ever come to light. But I can say in nearly 40 years of dealing with criminal cases the combination of aggravating circumstances here is the worst I have come across."
He described the case as "the grossest possible breach of trust" and said the father "did everything possible" to hide what was going on behind closed doors.
The Star Says: Horror beyond comprehension
Sentencing him, he said: "Not once, throughout all those years, did either of your daughters consent to having sexual intercourse with you - but after initial attempts to prevent you doing it when younger they realised resistance was futile and submitted to avoid further violence." He also said the rapist's wife - the mother of his daughters - became aware of the sex abuse over the years but did nothing to help.
She has not been prosecuted.
Nicholas Campbell QC, prosecuting, told Sheffield Crown Court the dad was powerful, controlling and terrified his two daughters - using violence and the threat of it to silence them.
He was often brutal during the rapes and told his daughters they would lose the children they loved if they reported him.
He even threatened to kill them and their children if they refused his demands for sex. Mr Campbell said: "He told each victim that she mustn't tell anyone, that it must be a secret to be shared only between father and daughter.
"Once the sexual assaults had started the defendant persisted and the activity became a regular feature of their lives."
The court heard the father wanted his daughters to give birth to his children and was so "determined" to reproduce he even offered to pay his youngest 500 to get pregnant one last time.
He never wore condoms, forbade his daughters from taking the contraceptive pill and then used the children borne out of the rapes to control his daughters.
He would even rape his daughters while they were pregnant and they would have to take it in turns to babysit their children while the other was forced to have sex with him.
Mr Campbell said despite some of the children being born with medical problems, the dad continued to play "Russian Roulette" with pregnancy and the health of the babies.
He added: "Once the children had begun to arrive the defendant added another weapon to his arsenal of control over his daughters - he used the very existence of the children and the love their mothers had for them to his own ends.
"When either of his victims tried to end the sexual abuse he threatened that he would kill them and their children."
When the younger daughter rang ChildLine in 1998 to ask whether she and her sister would lose their children if they reported their dad, they were told they could be given no guarantees, so they remained silent.
A statement prepared by the two daughters said: "His detention in prison brings us only the knowledge that he cannot physically touch us again.
"The suffering he caused will continue for many years and we must now concentrate our thoughts on finding the strength to rebuild our lives."
