SHEFFIELD’S business and civic leaders are today getting together with national campaigners for a rally in support of the planned new high speed rail network.

The event is taking place in Barker’s Pool, from 12.30pm, and is one of several around the country by the Yes to High Speed Rail movement, which is bringing along a campaign bus, rigged up to look like a high-speed train.

Sheffield Council, whose members including cabinet member for transport Coun Leigh Bramall will be at the rally, is are urging businesses and other groups to respond to the Department for Transport’s consultation in support of the new network, which has the potential to bring jobs and money into the city. The new line could see journey times between Sheffield and London reduced to just 75 minutes.
