Textile students who helped brighten up stations along a South Yorkshire railway line are on track for an award. The Stitch the Line initiative, involving the Penistone Line Partnership and Huddersfield University, invited artwork to be used to decorate stations along the route linking Sheffield and Huddersfield.

Now it is the running for an award in the Community Rail Awards ‘community art schemes – renewable and smaller projects’ category.

Alan Chaplin, of train operator Northern Rail, which works with the partnership to ‘bring communities together with the railway’, said: “I would like to thank them for the invaluable contribution they make to our railway and the communities we serve.”
