Rail company wins award

SOUTH Yorkshire local rail operator Northern has beaten stiff competition from some of the UK’s largest brands at this year’s Institute of Internal Communications Awards.

The company won a gold award for strategy – in recognition for the Northern Stars programme, through which passengers can nominate employees for recognition where their actions have gone over and above what is expected.

The scheme won its category for Reward and Recognition communications followed by the overall award competed for by all winners in each category – tipped as ‘the best of the best’ of the competition.

Pete Myers, Head of Service Quality of Northern Rail, said: “We couldn’t be happier to have won the gold award, considering our competition came from the likes of Barclays, O2, the Post Office and Sainsbury’s.”
