BOY, oh boy. Just imagine driving one of these!

Captivated kids were among the visitors to Meadowhall fascinated to see a streamlined supercar on show in the shopping centre.

The flash Lotus Evora, decked out in South Yorkshire Police livery, was parked up in the mall to grab shoppers’ attention as part of the force’s launch of a new road safety campaign.

The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of wearing a seatbelt, and the dangers of using a mobile phone when driving.

Chief Insp Stuart Walne, head of South Yorkshire road policing, said: “We don’t have any plans to use such cars to police the roads in South Yorkshire, but Lotus kindly loaned the car completely free to help bring home important messages about being safe and responsible behind the wheel. This campaign focuses on young drivers who are more inclined not to wear a seatbelt or be distracted by mobile phones or MP3s. ”

Officers also gave out leaflets, let people take the wheel of a driving simulator, and try out a breathalyser test.
