Race ace Russell back in the fast lane
BARC Formula Renault R02 Brands Hatch May 14/15 200 young Sheffield motorsport star Russ Danzey, who proved contrary to popular belief that it is possible to overtake around Brands Hatchs tight Indy Circuit with a stunning charge through the field from the pit-lane in the second round of the 2011 Formula Renault BARC single-seater championship.
MOTOR experts who say it’s impossible to overtake at Brands Hatch are being forced to think again – thanks to a lad from Sheffield.
Race ace Russell Danzey proved it can be done during the Formula Renault BARC Championship when, from the back of the pack, he made a breathtaking charge through the field around Brands Hatch’s Indy Circuit.
An electrical problem restricted his running in qualifying, preventing the highly-rated lad from Dore setting a representative lap time.
From last on the grid the 16-year-old, who is studying for his A levels at Birkdale School, knew he had nothing to lose. And he finished a creditable 13th out of 22.
Russ said: “To finish 13th from the pit-lane was certainly a lot more than I could have expected from the race.”
