Questions over Sheffield highways work

Have your say

GREEN Party members are quizzing Sheffield’s ruling Labour administration about the cost of a planned private finance initiative scheme to resurface every street.

Couns Jillian Creasy and Rob Murphy are interested in the value for money of the contract with a private firm, which will cost £800 million of council cash plus £1.2 billion borrowed privately.

The questions involve asking the original estimated cost for the project compared with what it is now, plus how much extra it will cost to borrow money privately compared with lower rates possible through public borrowing.

Coun Murphy, who represents Central ward, said: “There are many questions.”
