Pupils win in the 'Oscars'

PUPILS from a Sheffield school were presented with their very own Oscars at the Showroom cinema - after a special showing of their animated film The Crystal Ball.

The awards to the youngsters from Broomhill's Ashdell School were presented by Hollywood art director Sonja Klaus, who designed and cast the statuettes herself.

Sonja, who has worked as art director on hits such as Gladiator, the Tomb Raider films and Kingdom of Heaven, said the film was the best animation by young people she had seen.

The Ashdell film tackles the subject of bullying, and Sonja said the pupils had done an amazing job.

She added: "I cannot believe children of such a young age can produce something so insightful and mature as The Crystal Ball."
