Pupils' walking bus world record bid

HUNDREDS of pupils from two Sheffield schools will be marching out of class tomorrow in an attempt to break a world record.

Youngsters at Birley Spa and Woodthorpe primaries will be out to create the largest ever 'walking bus' in conjunction with thousands of other children around the country.

The event, organised by road safety charity Brake, aims to raise awareness about the number of children killed and hurt on foot by fast traffic, and to raise funds for the charity's work supporting families bereaved and injured by road crashes.

More than 100,000 children around the UK are expected to take part simultaneously in the event, which aims to encourage drivers to slow down to 20mph or lower in built up areas. The event also hopes to break the current record of 57,476 children and raise more than 70,000 for Brake's support services.
