Pupils take art from having work on show
ART with a message is on show at an exhibition in Sheffield city centre - created by children educated at home instead of school.
Youngsters from Sheffield and around the country have created pieces for the show at The Source offices on Pinstone Street, which will later go on a national tour.
They were asked to create works highlighting the reasons why they enjoy learning so much outside the confines of school.
Titled He-art - standing for home education - the exhibition was the idea of parent Chloe White who wanted to respond to the recent Badman review, which proposed stricter controls on families taking their children out of school.
Two other parents were also involved in the project, Tam Palmer and Monika Dutta, who are also concerned about threats to the lifestyles of home educating families.
Eshe Graham, aged 13, one of the featured artists who has been home educated for almost three years, said: "I wanted to do a group piece so I decided to invite some of my friends from my art group.
"We based our artwork on Freedom of Thought, using thought bubbles to express our feelings, with separate bubbles for each person so we could each show our own feelings and thoughts about home education. Each bubble was different and the finished piece looks great."
