STUDENTS from an under-threat South Yorkshire school have won funding to record and release a song they’ve written about its closure.

Priory School and Sports College in Lundwood, Barnsley, will shut in July for a merger.

“The school has been at the centre of the community for the past 80 years,” said school head of music John Campbell.

“Most of the children in the village come here, as did many of their parents and grandparents.”

Staff and students will join those from Willowgarth High at a new site in Shafton.

“The students wanted to ensure the school lived on in the community’s memory,”

The track will be sold on CD, in aid of school musical activities.
