SchooLCHILDREN from South Yorkshire are off to London in July for their own version of the Olympics – and they will be involved in writing an anthem for the opening ceremony.

Athersley South Primary School is participating in the event on Tuesday, July 3 - hosted by Nelson Primary School in the Olympic host borough of Newham - which has been funded through a grant of £2,480 from the Barnsley 2012 Aspiration and Achievement Fund.

On Friday, 15 Nelson pupils were due to have visited from Barnsley to work with songwriter Paul Watson and the Athersley pupils on an anthem for the opening ceremony for their games.
