HE’S the Monarch of the Sea, the Ruler of the Queen’s Navy… but any one of these likely young lads could be after his job!

Ian Stewart plays First Lord of the Admiralty Sir Joseph Porter in Dore Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s forthcoming production of nautical comedy classic HMS Pinafore.

And that’s exactly the same show that children from St Thomas More Primary School in Grenoside will be staging themselves in the summer.

So the young acting hopefuls were delighted when Ian called at the school in full naval regalia to talk about the famous Victorian musical comedy and pass on some tips to the young actors who will be auditioning for the part of snooty Sir Joseph.

The youngsters will also be getting a taste of life on the high seas when they go to see the Dore Gilbert and Sullivan Society production, which runs at Sheffield University Drama Studio from April 12 to 16.
