FORGET celebrities – if you want your Christmas lights switch-on to be really special get children to do the honours.

That is what happened in Beighton, Sheffield, courtesy of pupils from Reignhead Primary School.

To start the evening, 250 pupils from the school were joined by members of Beighton Environment group.

From the school, accompanited by Santa on his sleigh, they took part in a lantern procession to Sothall Green, where Beighton Princess Eve Hadwick turned on the lights.

The children had made the lanterns with their grandparents at a special open day at the school last month.

Following the switch-on, the parade walked to The Fox in Robin Lane, where the landlord gave the children refreshments before they switched on the pub’s Christmas lights.
