MORE than 500 youngsters from a Sheffield school enjoyed a super sports day at the English Institute of Sport – the first time they’d held the event at the state-of-the-art facilities.

City School headteacher Matt Percival said the youngsters had found the surroundings inspirational – and had been looking forward to the event for weeks.

“We staged a full programme of events which was brilliantly supported by parents,” he said.

“I believe sports day is a key event in a school’s annual calendar and to be able to hold it in such a wonderful venue has made everything extra special for the students.

“There’s been a lot of excitement generally among the pupils and of course there was no chance of anything being disrupted by the weather. I’m a little ashamed to say this is the first time I have been here myself and it really is mightily impressive,” Matt added.
