PUPILS from a South Yorkshire school have designed and created an Olympic-style Torch of Learning which is set to be carried around the borough.

A team of students from Thrybergh School and Sports College in Rotherham lit the torch at a special ceremony on the campus.

The plan is take the torch around the town in advance of the official Olympic Torch relay arriving in the town in June.

The torch will visit every Rotherham school from now until June as part of a project titled Lighting the Flame.

Its journey will end at the Rotherham Children’s Festival, which is being held at the Magna Science and Adventure Centre in Templeborough from June 18 to July 13.
