YOUNGSTERS from a Doncaster primary school were called out to open a pit village’s revamped supermarket.

Pupils from Long Toft Primary School officially opened one of the first new concept Asda Supermarkets on Station Road, Stainforth.

Pupils and teachers were invited to launch the store by manager, Paul Sutton, watched by Asda staff who have all transferred from Netto which previously occupied the site.

To thank them for officially opening the new store, the school was given an Asda gift card.

Mr Sutton said: “We wanted to celebrate the opening of our new store with the local community which was the idea behind inviting the local school.”

Sue Smith, parent support adviser at Long Toft Primary School, said: “It was a real honour to be asked to open the store and the pupils really enjoyed themselves.”

They bought food for a French themed event with the money on the gift card.
