AN INN set on the Chatsworth Estate has been crowned gastro pub of the year for a fourth time.

The Devonshire Arms at Beeley triumphed in the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards 2013 as joint winner with The Red Lion Pub and Bistro, Peak Edge Hotel, at Stonedge, Chesterfield.

The four-star pub, converted from three cottages in 1747, was reputedly once frequented by Charles Dickens. Chef patron Alan Hill creates his menus from local produce.

Television chef Simon Rimmer presented winners in 12 categories with their Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards during a glitzy Chatsworth House dinner on Monday night.

Other winners included the Three Roofs Cafe at Castleton, as best newcomer, and Koo Coffee in Chesterfield as Derbyshire cafe of the year.

Coun Kevin Parkinson, cabinet member for regeneration at event organiser Derbyshire County Council, said: “We’re blessed with some fantastic restaurants, bistros, pubs and cafes which make the most of excellent food produced locally to serve delicious food and drink.”
