THREE cheers - but no beers - for the Robin Hood pub quiz team.

Take a bow Stuart Field, Elaine Nunn, Julian Arnell and Mick Ashton who have been crowned National Pub Quiz Team Champions after beating off some pretty tasty competition while they were stone cold sober.

They did it after team captain Stuart enforced a no booze rule - until after the last question.

And the rule on sobriety did the trick after the team of boffins battled through a brain-busting route to reach the national finals of the competition run by Ember Inns,

The final took place in Birmingham where they saw off nine other teams of pub geniuses from around the country.

Stuart said: “We all work for the council, myself and Elaine in finance and Julian and Mick as building surveyors.

“Not only that but we all live within a mile of the Robin Hood in Millhouses where we compete every Wednesday night.”

He added: “I believe you need a clear head when quizzing and that’s why I stick to coke until after the final question.

“I was stone cold sober at the finals despite there being free drinks for competitors.

“We never touched a drop - but made up for it once we had won.”

The team also scooped £4,000.

Landlord Wesley said: “They’re a pretty determined bunch. I know Stuart drinks coke only and the rest of the team are restricted to two pints, I think.

“Not only that but on the trip down to Birmingham Stuart took a book to read.

“And you probably guessed - it was a book of quiz questions.”
