DOZENS of people have signed a petition to Sheffield Council expressing concern over plans for a new floodlit, multi-use games area in a Sheffield suburb.
A total of 58 residents put their names to the protest over the plans at Greenhill Park and the petition was presented to councillors during a full meeting of the authority.
Angela Newman, of Lowedges Close, said: “The site is very close to housing which looks onto the park. Wouldn’t it be better to position the facility close to the existing BMX track?
“The floodlighting is a major concern - it would be intrusive to residents.
“We also want to know how the new facilities will be monitored. We have problems of vandalism, fighting, drug use in the BMX area. Anti-social behaviour in the area decreases the standard of living.”
Coun Shaffaq Mohammed, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “Clearly we will take the concerns up and raise them with the head of parks.”
