POLICE are offering people the chance to register their Christmas presents with special security markings to help deter would-be thieves.
Items including bicycles, laptops, mobile phones, games consoles, sat navs, music players and even cars can be marked using the technology, called SmartWater.
The water is a forensic-based fluid, which contains a code which can only be read under ultraviolet light.
Officers are holding events on Sunday in Chesterfield at Holmebrook Valley Park, from 10am to midday, and Littlemoor Shopping Centre, from 1pm to 3pm.
PCSO Steve Bircumshaw said: “We would encourage everyone to come along on the day and have their valuable new Christmas presents security marked.
“SmartWater can be used on almost anything and can help police to identify your property should it ever be stolen.”
