PROM fever hit South Yorkshire as schools finished for the summer - with dreamy dresses and sharp suits taking over the timetable.

These pictures are just a sneak preview of the dozens sent in to The Star to feature in a special supplement next Tuesday, July 31.

Grinning chaps from The City School in Sheffield, ballgown-wearing girls from Rawmarsh Community School in Rotherham, and a stunning line-up from Yewlands Community College near Parson Cross all enjoyed a fantastic farewell to school life.

At Rawmarsh, magic really was in the air - as a trick expert was on
hand for entertainment at Carlton Park in Rotherham.

Hours of preparation were put in by the girls at Yewlands Community College’s celebration at the Sheffield Wednesday ground.

Ruby Doane, aged 16, of Ecclesfield, said it was a ‘night to remember forever’.

“A few months beforehand everyone started looking for their outfits and they spent all day getting ready,” she said.

“It was a great night - we had a special three-course dinner and a disco.”

While venues have bustled with discos and buffets, some unusual vehicles have also been seen across the county.

City School’s prom at Kenwood Hall was a ‘wonderful evening’.

Ben Herbert, one of the organisers, said: “The students who left looked stunning in their beautiful dresses and suits.

“Everyone had a great time and represented the school brilliantly.

“We were really sad at the end as we said goodbye to a fabulous year group.”

And it wasn’t only secondary schools celebrating - Marlcliffe and Arbourthorne primaries both held their own proms.
