A RARE football programme from 1912 which went under the hammer has failed to sell at auction.

The programme was from the Barnsley v West Bromwich Albion FA Cup Final replay held at Bramall Lane on April 24, 1912 - just nine days after the sinking of the Titanic.

It had been estimated the programme, which cost one old penny, would sell for £10,000.

The programme was among a collection of Barnsley FC memorabilia which was collected by a fan over a 40 year period.

Meanwhile a rare 1916 Sheffield United v Barnsley programme sold for £225 - it is unusual because few programmes were produced during the First World War.

The auction was held at Bonhams in Chester.
