A UNIVERSITY of Sheffield professor is taking part in an event about the history of circus, magic and street theatre in Blackpool for one last time.
Professor Vanessa Toulmin, head of cultural engagement at the University of Sheffield, is to celebrate her last Showzam! in Blackpool, having decided to concentrate on Sheffield’s events and festivals in future.
Showzam! is an annual festival of circus, magic and street theatre attracting thousands to Blackpool to experience its history and free entertainment.
Natalie Wyatt, festival managing director: “Showzam! promises yet again to provide audiences with an eclectic mix of entertainment.
“We want people to visit Blackpool and enjoy experiencing something new whilst being entertained.”
Professor Toulmin has supported the Blackpool event for six years but following her contribution to the success of Sheffield’s Festival of the Mind last October, she wants to concentrate more on ‘inspiring’ Sheffield again.
She said: “I’m now focusing on Sheffield-based projects to celebrate all that Sheffield has to offer the world.”
