BOSSES on Doncaster market have paid tribute to the site after it was named Britain’s Best Market 2011.

The market was handed the title by the National Association of British Markets Authorities after it impressed a panel of judges.

Doncaster’s Town Centre Manager Roy Dean said: “This is fantastic news and I’m very proud that we have been recognised as the top market in Britain. We were up against very stiff competition.

“With many positive improvements at the markets now starting to bear fruit - including a greatly improved uptake of tenancies - I think we really deserved to win.”

A programme of extensive improvements is currently underway at the market to help rejuvenate the site.

The next few weeks will see outdoor seating refurbished, decorative work to spruce up the inside and outside of the Food Hall, new ice making equipment - essential to the operation of our fantastic Fish Market - and a major revamp of the market top area opposite the Red Lion.

The markets public toilets have been revamped and made free of charge for traders and shoppers alike.
