A prisoner killed at a South Yorkshire jail at the weekend was stabbed to death, say police.
Two prisoners, aged 23 and 26, have been arrested on suspicion of murder at HMP Lindholme, Doncaster, on Saturday. The identity of the prisoner who died has not yet been disclosed, but police said his family have been informed. A post-mortem examination was carried out on Sunday to establish the cause of death and a police spokesman said the 22-year-old man died from a single stab wound.
The accused men have since been released from police custody on bail and returned to the Prison Service pending further inquiries.
In June, Lindholme was rated as ‘very poor’ by prison inspectors.
