AS a recent stroke sufferer, I read the article praising stroke services in Barnsley, Sheffield and South Yorkshire with mixed feelings. I am not disputing that there have been needed improvements in services for 'typical' stroke sufferers in this area.
However as a recent sufferer and below the normal age, if there really is one, I have to say this is not my own experience. I understand that as a younger stroke sufferer I am not an isolated incident. Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of praise for individual health care professionals I have come across in the last few months. But there is still a massive gap in appropriate equal care and provision for younger sufferers.
The primary goal should be all the care and rehabilitation needed to get you back fit so you can return to work as quickly as possible, or living a good quality of life, irrespective of where you live across the South Yorkshire/Sheffield City Region.
And until that is achieved the service cannot be said to be successful.
