An elated team of teachers is celebrating after their Sheffield pre-school was rated ‘outstanding.’

Malin Bridge Pre-School Plus, on Dykes Lane, received Ofsted’s highest possible score following an inspection earlier this year.

“It’s thrilling – we’re so proud,” said manager Pat Ward, who has worked at the pre-school, in the grounds of Malin Bridge Primary School, for 21 years.

“Nobody did anything differently on inspection day – we all went about our work, and we are just so pleased with the stunning result.”

Pat was quick to credit the hard work of her ‘incredible’ team - a staff of nine.

She said: “In recent years we’ve put an awful lot of work in to make sure we act as a team, and not a series of individuals.

“My team are incredibly dedicated and we’re all constantly reflecting on what we’re doing and aiming to improve ourselves and our practices.”

In the report, staff were praised for their inspirational leadership and recognised as being a ‘well-trained, motivated and enthusiastic team’.

The inspection team found that children were ‘thriving and happy in this high quality setting, showing high levels of curiosity and imagination, as well as extremely positive relationships with their peers and staff’.

The report also congratulated staff for creating an environment that is ‘rich, varied, child-oriented, exciting, stimulating and inspiring - ensuring all children make rapid progress towards their early learning goals’.

Inspectors added: “Children are extremely well-supported by the staff’s excellent knowledge and understanding of how each child learns.”

“It’s such a lovely report,” Pat said. “But, as a team, we’re already looking to the future. We want to continue to reflect on and improve the service we’re offering to children in Sheffield.”
