Praise from a sporting Blade

LOCAL Sheffieldhistory.co.uk writes to bemoan that the German view of our steel city had never been shown on English TV.

A far greater loss to English TV was the Sheffield Wednesday v Manchester United game, September 1968.

That was the greatest match ever played. You can have the Real Madrid v Eintracht European Cup Final, Stan Matthews Cup Final etc.

The SW v Manchester United fixture had everything and I very much doubt if the ref knew he had refereed the world's greatest ever football match.

Even the Manchester United fans applauded the Wednesday team off the pitch! They scored five goals to Manchester United's four.

Like the Manchester United fans, I applauded the Owls on that day much, I think, to the amusement of the Owls' fans. One or two of them said: "At long last a sporting Blades fan."
