TWO Sheffield care workers are celebrating after winning awards.
Charles Chikwanha, from Eagle House Care Home in Ecclesall, and Gary Shaw, who is an ancillary care worker at Herries Lodge, were presented with their gongs at the Yorkshire Regional Finals of the Ideal Care Homes’ Great British Care Awards, held at York Railway Museum.
Charles was formerly an aircraft engineer in Zimbabwe, and started work in 2009 at Eagle House which supports older adults with enduring mental illness.
He began a degree at Sheffield Hallam University in September, studying to be a mental health social worker.
He was nominated for the award by resident Hazel Watson and care manager Jody Virago.
She said: “Charles is a true gentleman who always displays calmness and compassion, promoting dignity and choice in all aspects of care.”
He will now go forward to national finals next Spring.
