POVERTY and inequality will come into focus during a talk at a city university.
Social Work Action Network South Yorkshire is hosting the event, which takes place at the Peak Lecture Theatre in Sheffield Hallam’s Owen Building on Thursday, November 8, from 6.30pm.
Guest speaker on the night will be Professor Danny Dorling of The University of Sheffield. He will present a talk entitled ‘What makes toffs and chavs? – The impact of poverty and inequality’.
A spokesman for the Social Work Action Network said: “We are a loose network of social work practitioners, academics, students and social welfare service users concerned that social work is being undermined by managerialism, marketisation, the stigmatisation of service users and by welfare cuts.”
