Poster boy Luke rides away with top prize
A COLOURFUL poster raising awareness of road safety has won a South Yorkshire lad a new bike.
The design by Luke Rogan, aged 10, a pupil at St Mary's Catholic Primary School in Hoyland, Barnsley, urges pedestrians to 'stop and think' before crossing the road. Luke's was chosen from more than 100 entries in the competition, run by building contractor Inspace and Barnsley Council's road safety department. Inspace donated the prizes.
Children from eight schools in the area participated in the contest. Luke's poster has been professionally reproduced by Inspace's graphics team and will be appearing in public places around Barnsley.
He was presented with his new GT Interceptor BMX, cycling helmet and high visibility jacket by Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley, John and Linda Parkinson.
Inspace's community engagement officer Leigh Garbutt said: "Luke has produced a great poster which really gets the message across to young children."
