A PLANNED 10 per cent cut in funding for housing benefits will hit unemployed families and individuals the hardest, a Sheffield MP claims.

Sheffield South East Labour MP Clive Betts, chairman of the House of Commons all-party local government select committee, made the comments after publication of a report by the committee into changes to council tax, which leave it up to councils to decide where to cut allocations.

In Sheffield, the changes mean a £4.5 million cut to the current £45 million annual council tax benefit available.
