THE headline (Feb 28) which alarmingly stated “We’re being choked” was regrettably stating the truth.
We have been doing it for years, telling that traffic fumes and air pollution are 50 per cent higher than the recommended safety limits. News that the pollution has reached the leafy suburbs introduces a perverted sense of justice for the people of the Don Valley, Tinsley, Attercliffe, Darnall and areas where they experience more than their fair share of poor health and poverty.
It is to be hoped that, with pollution pervading the habitat of Sheffield’s chattering classes, the council will find the courage to address a problem the people, doctors and health workers of Sheffield east have struggled for years to have addressed. Far too many premature deaths.
