Police flush out sex pests lurking in station loos
POLICE patrols have been stepped up around toilets at Sheffield railway station after complaints of men using them for sexual activity.
Posters have been displayed in the toilets warning lewd behaviour will not be tolerated.
Outreach workers have been carrying out visits to try to identify those involved.
A British Transport Police investigation discovered men were arranging to meet in the toilets and were involved in "unacceptable sexually explicit acts".
PC Julie Rankine said: "We have increased police patrols and displayed posters to warn people of the consequences of their actions.
"British Transport Police are also working closely with outreach workers to regularly visit the area and share information with rail staff in order to identify those involved.
"I am pleased to say the number of reports of such incidents has reduced significantly over the past couple of months since we began to address the problem.
"This sort of behaviour in the station toilets is unacceptable and makes people feel uncomfortable and unsafe in what is otherwise a very safe environment."
