Police celebrate crime rate fall - and Help the Heroes
COPPERS swapped their uniforms for tuxedos and gowns at the annual Barnsley Police ball.
The event, held at Ardsley House, Ardsley, raised more than 2,500 for the Help for Heroes charity, which supports injured soldiers.
A raffle and auction were held and the top prize was the chance to spend the day with the Red Devils Parachute Regiment Free Fall Team.
Chief Superintendent Andy Brooke, who gave an opening speech at the start of the evening, said: "This year has seen an overall reduction in crime in Barnsley of 14 per cent and this continues the theme of crime being at its lowest in 21 years.
"This just wouldn't have been possible without the tireless work of our police officers, staff and support of our partners and I hope staff take this opportunity tonight to celebrate their hard work and achievements.
"It was a brilliant night and was made even better by the fact we were able to raise a substantial amount for such a worthy charity."
