Police to travel on trains to Wembley for Sheffield Wednesday play-off final

Police officers will travel on trains and patrol railway stations en-route to Wembley as thousands of Sheffield Wednesday fans travel to the capital this weekend.

British Transport Police is warning Sheffield Wednesday and Hull fans that anyone caught committing anti-social behaviour or involved in disorder could land a criminal record and football banning orders.

Superintendent Dave Oram said: “Let’s keep in mind that most football supporters want to do just that - support their team and enjoy a day out doing so, however a minority risk spoiling that for themselves and others by behaving in a way that makes others feel intimidated or threatened.

"Any behaviour that impedes or affects the journey of others in a detrimental way will absolutely not be tolerated and we will do everything in our power to find those who do and bring them to justice.”

A number of officers will use body cameras to record rail users.

Alcohol will not be allowed on the 8.15pm and 9.11pm Hull Trains services from London Kings Cross to Hull on Saturday.

Virgin East Coast services between London Kings Cross and Doncaster and Hull from 8pm will also be 'dry trains'.

Temp Supt Oram added: “Anyone carrying alcohol will be asked to dispose of it before they get on the train and anyone excessively under the influence of alcohol could be refused travel.

"Bear in mind that other people who aren’t football fans use the rail network, including young families, who want to enjoy a peaceful journey. Consider whether your behaviour is acceptable.”
