A 60-year-old man who sustained life-threatening injuries in an altercation in Barnsley has died in hospital.

The man was at Thurnscoe Coronation Working Men’s Club on Stuart Street on Sunday when he was reportedly involved in an incident with a 53-year-old man.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and perverting the course of justice.

And a 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Both have been bailed while enquiries continue.

A post mortem examination was due to take place yesterday to establish the cause of death.
