Police probe into car theft scam in Sheffield

A police probe is underway into a scam in which a Range Rover was stolen in Sheffield.

The vehicle was taken from Ecclesall Road by a man who claimed he was buying it for his wife.

He told the seller that they money would be paid to him via a bank transfer and when the seller checked his account, the cash appeared to have been deposited.

But he later discovered that his balance had gone up because a cheque had been paid in to his account, but it failed to clear and the details provided by the buyer turned out to be fake.

Anyone with information on the theft or sightings of the vehicle should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 518 December 9.
