Police have thanked people for their patience after residents were evacuated from homes during a bomb scare.
A device was found in a property in Gibraltar Street, Sheffield, which police said ‘had the appearance of a bomb’.
The road and several adjacent roads were cordoned off as officers worked with the army’s bomb disposal experts.
They sent a robot in and a controlled explosion was carried out on Monday night.
The force said it was not a ‘viable device’, but investigations are continuing into what it was.
A police spokesman said: “Police and partner agencies would like to thank residents, motorists and the public for their patience.”
