POLICE visited sick youngsters on their patrols of Chesterfield – by popping onto the children’s ward at the town’s hospital.

Safer neighbourhoods officers visited youngsters at Chesterfield and District Royal Hospital and handed out activity books and badges and took their fingerprints to make special bookmarks.

The officers also spoke to the children about the work of the police.

PC Lee Oldham said: “We have a good relationship with the hospital and do a lot of work with staff and visitors.

“We thought it would be a nice idea to come and meet some of the children here on the ward.

“The children all thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a very heartwarming experience for both me and my colleague.”

During their visit, officers also gave out crime prevention advice and personal safety alarms to members of staff.
